Pascal at the Old Vicarage is one of my favourite restaurants.
We were greeted at the door and warmly invited in, in fact made welcome from the very first moment.
Shown to a large, comfortable bar/lounge area to have a drink and nibbles whilst making the difficult decision of what to choose.
Difficult because there was nothing that I wouldn’t have chosen.
There is an express lunch menu which appears to be very good value. However we opted for the table d’hôte and very pleased we did. This can be easily mixed with the à la carte if desired.
The restaurant is light and airy, has well spaced tables with linen table cloths and comfortable dining chairs.
All of our courses were excellent, cooked to perfection, a sensible portion size and a good mix of flavours.
I was thinking of just having starter and main but was easily persuaded otherwise.
My espresso crème brûlée by itself was exceptional but the bonus was the accompaniment of coffee cake, small orange segments, red currants, chocolate crumbs and an absolutely gorgeous and very smooth iced cappuccino parfait.
A totally relaxing unrushed lunch with professional and polite service.
We will be returning but with friends next time as we don’t want them to miss out.
