Willow Cottage Oxford at Denton
In July 2017 we stayed in the secluded annex which is a good sized room but unfortunately the private patio is under an old leylandi tree which sheds lots of bits onto you and there is a rusty old contraption sat on the table with a chimnea by the side containing cigarette butts. Patio area is unkempt. The patio doors had not been cleaned underneath the step and when opening the second door this was also in need of cleaning.
Patio windows were not clean.
As regards the room at Willow Cottage Oxford –
No biscuits on tea tray and you have to guess what is in the jars. Drink coasters not clean.
No wardrobe just 4 coathooks on the back of a door and not even any hangers.
There is only a tiny mirror over the chest of drawers so nowhere to sit and put makeup on.
A large mirror is in the bathroom but nowhere to put makeup on here as only one shelf with limited space.
The en-suite –
There is only a tiny towel rail (which was never hot) and nowhere to hang towels in the small en-suite.
We returned on each evening to find damp towels.
The tiny sink makes wet shaving difficult.
Towels provided were quite rough and one tore during drying after a shower.
The en-suite floor had not been cleaned since before our arrival as there were the same bits of debris on it during the whole of our stay.
The outer top lip of the shower tray was unclean.
Breakfast is very simple and certainly not ‘bristling with local produce’ as Sawdays describe it.
Only strawberries offered for fresh fruit and this is in Summer.
Muesli and granola – no other cereals.
Marmalade was very thin with only a few pieces of fruit in it.
On our last morning we were told that there was only one piece of bacon!!!
So my wife asked for two boiled eggs and I asked for the one piece of bacon with scrambled eggs.
My wife received one boiled egg as the other had been broken and my scrambled egg was such a small portion that obviously only one egg had been used to make it.
During our stay we tried to resolve the problems.
Day 1 – nothing for us to say as only just arrived.
Day 2 – when we returned on the second day I mentioned the damp towels to the only person around who I think was Katrina’s son, but nothing was done.
Day 3 – on the morning of our third and last day we mentioned the damp and torn towels at breakfast to the cleaner who Katrina had left in charge as she had had to go to London. We asked for fresh towels.
However we returned from our day out to find room not serviced, no fresh towels, no bottled water, had to make our own bed and wash cups and glasses. Once again the towels were damp.
Also no-one was around to even try to sort things out.
On our final morning we asked to speak to Katrina the owner about these points and it would appear that notice was being taken as she made notes.
Also she offered us the chance to pay what we thought it was worth. Thus we only paid for two of the three nights stay – perhaps we should have also asked for some consideration for the other two nights.
Nevertheless we would never be persuaded to return at any price.
Willow Cottage Oxford is in the Sawdays directory our breakfast certainly wasn’t “bristling with local produce“.
